I have spent a tragically large chunk of my first 50 years worrying about what would happen in an encounter I was to have with someone. Based on my personality and pathologies, this has taken up more space, time, and energy in my life than it will have for others. However, I imagine it occurs to a lesser extent in most of our lives.
We project on to others, we make up stories about them. More often than not, we might be better off to simply engage with one another.
