Read Philippians 3:17-20 (NRSV, The Message)
Citizens of a Different Kin-dom
But our citizenshipl is in heaven, and it is from there that we are expecting a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Phippians 3:20
Devotional
When we think about our identity, many labels come to mind - our nationality, profession, or family role. Yet there's a profound truth that supersedes all these earthly identities: we are citizens of God's kin-dom. This citizenship isn't just a future reality but shapes how we live today. It influences our values, priorities, and how we engage with the world around us. Just as someone living abroad carries their home culture with them, we carry the values and culture of God's kin-dom wherever we go. This doesn't mean we disengage from our earthly communities - rather, we bring kin-dom values into every space we occupy.
Reflection Question
How might your daily decisions and interactions look different if you consciously approached them as a citizen of God's kin-dom first?
"From the very beginning of the followers of Jesus, there was a recognition that we are different than the world around us... We are not citizens of this empire. We are citizens of the Kin-dom of God. We have a different set of values." Pastor Jason
Prayer
God, help me remember that my primary citizenship is in Your Kingdom. Guide me in living out Your values while engaging meaningfully with the world around me. Amen.
