From Criticism to Blessing

Jul 13, 2025

James 3 reminds us that though the tongue is small, it can set the course of a whole life—like a spark that ignites a forest fire. We know the damage that harsh and critical words can do, and too often we speak them—to others, and to ourselves. Scripture, tradition, and experience also remind us that our words can be a source of blessing. When we speak with kindness, truth, humility, and hope, we echo the voice of the One who called creation good. What if our words became tools for healing, not harm? Today, we begin again, choosing words that build up, not tear down. May our worship open our hearts to speak blessing—into our homes, our communities, and even to those we struggle to love.
