Rules For Radicals: Feet Planted, Turning the Other Cheek

Last week we started with the thesis of this whole series: Jesus didn't come to tear up the law, but to tear out everything that's grown up to choke it.

This week we get to one of the hardest, most misunderstood pieces of his teaching: turn the other cheek. For a long time, people have heard that as "just take it" — roll over, don't fight back, let people walk on you. That is not what's happening in this text. What Jesus describes here is something much braver than either fighting back or giving in. It's a third way — and it's exactly the kind of compassionate justice we're going to sit with today.
