Blessed Are the Meek, Part 1

We've been climbing a mountain together.

Three weeks ago we opened our hands — releasing the grip of self-sufficiency. Two weeks ago we let grief move through those open hands. This week Jesus meets us with a third surprising word:

"Blessed are the meek."

Which doesn't sound like much of a blessing, does it?

Meek. We hear that and think — passive, weak, doormat. The one who always gets overlooked.

But that's not what Jesus means. Not even close.
