The Daily: Friday October 24, 2025

"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." - Luke 4:18-19

After reading from Isaiah, Jesus delivered one of the shortest and most powerful sermons ever: "Today, this has been accomplished in your midst." Not tomorrow. Not someday. Today. Right here. Right now. This is the urgency of purpose—it's not just about discovering what we're called to do, but recognizing that we are called to do it now, in this time, in this place. We are the body of Christ in this moment of history, with all its challenges and opportunities.

You might wish you lived in a different time, when things seemed simpler or when the problems weren't so complex. But as Gandalf wisely said, "All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us." That is purpose—not wishing for different circumstances, but faithfully responding to the ones we have. The Spirit is nudging your plans into purpose right now. The world needs what you have to offer—your compassion, your skills, your unique perspective, even your willingness to dress up in a frog costume and stand firm against forces of empire and evil (sometimes purpose requires a sense of humor!). You are a person of purpose. Not because you have it all figured out, but because you are willing to say "yes" to God's call in this moment. Today,

God's favor and liberation can be accomplished through you, in your midst, in your community. The question isn't whether you're qualified—it's whether you're available.

Where is the Spirit nudging your plans into purpose today, and what small step can you take to respond to that calling?

Prayer
God, help me recognize that today is the day you want to work through me. Give me eyes to see where you're already moving and courage to join you in that work. Make me available to your purposes right now. Amen.
