The Daily: Tuesday January 21, 2025

Read Nehemiah 5:1-12  (NRSV, The Message)

I was very angry when I heard their outcry and these complaints. Nehmiah 5:6

"“We are now faced with the fact that tomorrow is today. We are confronted with the fierce urgency of now. In this unfolding conundrum of life and history, there "is" such a thing as being too late. This is no time for apathy or complacency. This is a time for vigorous and positive action.” Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

God's call to justice isn't a suggestion for sometime in the future – it's an urgent mandate for today. In our rapidly changing world, we can't afford to be passive observers of injustice. Each day we delay action is another day someone suffers unnecessarily. This urgency isn't meant to overwhelm us but to motivate us. Just as Nehemiah responded immediately when he heard about Jerusalem's walls, we too must respond promptly to the needs around us. Whether it's helping immigrants, supporting LGBTQ+ individuals, or addressing economic inequalities, the time for action is now.

Lord, help us set aside our pride and self-sufficiency to work effectively with others. Show us how to build bridges and create partnerships that advance your kingdom. Amen.
