"Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." - Matthew 5:10
The Persecutor Within
We often picture persecution as something that comes from the outside. And often it does. But there is another kind that is quieter and harder to name. It is the voice inside that says: don't speak up, don't risk it, don't lose what you have.
When we are confronted with injustice and feel the "fire in our bones," the pull to act, something in us calculates the cost. We might lose comfort. We might lose approval. We might lose the respect of people whose opinions we value. That internal resistance is real, and it is powerful.
Jesus, the "son of man," universal human, faced the same thing. In the wilderness He was offered power, ease, and adoration. He said no. Not because those things aren't appealing, but because he knew the path He was called to walk. He chose the harder road, the one that led toward people rather than away from them. That same choice sits in front of us. Not always in dramatic moments, but in quiet ones. Do we speak or stay silent? Do we act or look away?
Encouragement for today: The fact that you feel the tension is a sign that you care. That tension is not your enemy. It is an invitation to choose courage, one small step at a time.
Reflection Question
What is one area of your life where internal fear or comfort is keeping you from doing something you sense God is calling you toward?
Prayer
Jesus, You faced every temptation we face and still chose the path of love and justice. Give us the courage to follow You even when it costs us something. Amen.
