More Than Rules: A Different Way of Being

Most of us grew up thinking the spiritual life was about following rules well enough to earn a passing grade. Do more. Try harder. Keep the list. But Jesus had something entirely different in mind.

When He stood on that hillside and said He came not to abolish the law but to fulfill it, He was not raising the bar on rule-keeping. He was pointing toward something deeper. Fulfillment here means bringing the law's truest intention into completion. It is less about what you do and more about who you are becoming. Think about a seed. It does not strain and struggle to become a tree. It simply grows into what it was always meant to be. That is the picture Jesus is painting for us.

A life rooted in God is not a life of white-knuckled compliance. It is a life of genuine transformation, from the inside out. This is genuinely good news. We are not being asked to perform our way into God's favor. We are being invited to grow into the people God already sees in us. That kind of change is sustainable. It is real. And it starts not with a longer to-do list but with a deeper root system. You are not behind. You are not failing. You are growing. And that is exactly where God meets you.
