Now the word of the Lord came to me saying,
‘Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
and before you were born I consecrated you;
I appointed you a prophet to the nations.’
Then I said, ‘Ah, Lord God! Truly I do not know how to speak, for I am only a boy.’ But the Lord said to me,
‘Do not say, “I am only a boy”;
for you shall go to all to whom I send you,
and you shall speak whatever I command you.
Do not be afraid of them,
for I am with you to deliver you,
says the Lord.’
Jeremiah 4:4-8

Called Despite the Fear
Fear has a way of making us feel isolated, as if we're the only ones trembling in the face of uncertainty. Yet throughout history, God has consistently called ordinary people who were anything but fearless. When we look at the great figures of faith, we don't find superhuman courage - we find regular people who chose to say yes despite their racing hearts. The beautiful truth is that God doesn't wait for us to become brave before extending an invitation to participate in something greater. Fear doesn't disqualify us from God's calling; it's often the very context in which we discover our purpose. When we feel that familiar knot in our stomach or that voice whispering 'you're not ready,' we can remember that readiness isn't a prerequisite for God's call. Today, whatever fear you're carrying - whether it's about a relationship, a career decision, or simply facing another day in an uncertain world - know that you're in good company. The same God who called reluctant prophets and young women facing impossible circumstances is calling you. Your fear doesn't make you weak; your willingness to move forward despite it makes you faithful.

Reflection
What is one area of your life where fear has been holding you back from responding to what you sense God might be calling you toward?

Prayer
God, thank you that you don't wait for us to be fearless before you call us. Help me to recognize your voice even when my heart is racing with uncertainty. Give me the courage to take the next small step forward, trusting that you will provide what I need along the way. Amen.
