Joshua also commanded the people, “Purify yourselves, for tomorrow YaHWeH will do extraordinary things among you.” Joshua 3:5
By the time the people of Israel stand at the edge of the Jordan, they are not strong in the way the world defines strength.
They are tired.
They are grieving.
They are uncertain.
Moses is dead.
The future is unclear.
And still, the call comes: Step forward.
Not with a map.
Not with a guarantee.
But with presence.
The ark goes first—not as a weapon, not as a trophy, but as a reminder: God is with you in the crossing. The people do not rush ahead. They do not leap to the other side. They step into the water and stand there, trusting that the next step will be given when it is time.
This is strength for the long way.
It is not about seeing the whole path.
It is about taking the next faithful step.
You may not know what comes after this week, this decision, this season. You may be carrying grief, fatigue, or doubt. And still, the truth remains:
Before you are asked to act, you are named beloved.
Before you are asked to endure, you are accompanied.
Strength does not mean you are never afraid.
It means you do not walk alone.
On this Sunday, when we end one week and begin another,
Inhale gently.
Exhale slowly.
And remember:
You are held.
You are not alone.
And step by step, you will be given what you need.

Reflection
Where in my life am I tempted to seek quick resolution or control, rather than the slower strength of reconciliation and repair?
Where in my life am I tempted to seek quick resolution or control, rather than the slower strength of reconciliation and repair?
Prayer
Faithful God,
as I walk into what I cannot yet see,
help me trust your presence more than my certainty.
Give me strength for today,
and courage for the next step.
Amen.
Faithful God,
as I walk into what I cannot yet see,
help me trust your presence more than my certainty.
Give me strength for today,
and courage for the next step.
Amen.
