Daily Lectionary Reading: Psalm 130 (NRSV, The Message); 1 Samuel 20:27-42 (NRSV, The Message); Luke 4:31-37 (NRSV, The Message)
Jonathan said, “Go in peace! The two of us have vowed friendship in God’s name, saying, ‘God will be the bond between me and you, and between my children and your children forever!’ ”
1 Samuel 20:42 (The Message)
1 Samuel 20:42 (The Message)
It turns out that Saul was bent on killing David. Jonathan went to warn David. This would be the last time they saw one another. Jonathan, recognizong the divine bond between them, recommitted to their relationship, and sent David away.
There are times in our relationships when we realize that it is time to leave one another's company for this reason or that, but we recognize there will always be a bond. Sometimes life requires that we move away from where are loved ones live. Sometimes we come to the conclusion that we cannnot be married to someone but we know there will always be a deep freindship. There are some relationships we have that we know the bond will not be broken by circumstances.
