David proceeded with a longer stride, a larger embrace since the God-of-the-Angel-Armies was with him.

When we know that God is with us, there is a largeness about our work. It is often fleeting, the larger embrace. There are other things that steal our attention. We will, tragically, see that with David in the rest of his story.

The thing is, God is always with us. However, it is so easy for us to lose sight of that. We start building fortresses, imagining who we might conquer, what we might amass. And as soon and as easily as we employed a larger stride, we start to shrink and stumble. There is less we embrace.

The joy and promise of the with-God life is that we can always adjust, start again, matching steps with the Divine.
